The MAIN TEXT the anti- trinitarian uses is:
John 17:3

Thus they say-- THE FATHER IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD-- and Christ is not that true God, but only a divine Being sent by the true God.

However, John 17:3 does not deny that Jesus is also the only true God. "To know thee" and to "know Christ" is to have eternal life. The focus is on "knowing God" which means eternal life. The true God can be known only by knowing "him whom He did send" namely Jesus. Who says "He that has seen me, has seen the Father", John 14:9

To restrict the "true God" to the Father, is build on reasoning restricted by human limitation .
It is based on this rationalization-- --since the Father and Jesus are two persons, and this verse says the Father is the "only true God", this naturally would exclude Jesus as being the "only true God".

That conclusion of course denies the concept of the ONENESS OF GOD as being comprised of three persons who are ONE in purpose, plans, motives, ideals and even share each others thoughts as if they were their own. It denies that Jesus, in this prayer, mingles and weaves himself into the same divine essence, power, and might, since he wills to be known with the Father as the giver and provider of eternal life.

Now let's explore this idea further which attempts to restrict the infinite God to human limitations and maintains that this verse "proves" that the Father ALONE is truely God.

If a person reads John 1:1, and 20:28 where the same author declares that Christ is God, and then asks himself; "If Jesus is a god, but is not the True God, what kind of God is Jesus? With no other knowledge about Christ, the answer would have to be that, "Jesus must be a false god".

If John 17:3 merely read, the "only God" (as opposed to "only true God"), it would be bad enough for the anti-trinitarian. But the way John 17:3 is worded forces the anti-trinitarian to reject the Godhood of Christ or declare Him a false God. The Bible says there is ONLY ONE GOD and no other. If the Father is the "ONLY TRUE GOD", how can Jesus be called God in any true sense, unless of course, He is ONE with GOD.
Now the anti-trinitarians admit Jesus is still called God in scripture.
Yet how can this be reconciled, how can it say here in John 17:3 that the FATHER is the ONLY TRUE GOD, and yet Christ is also called God, in the scriptures? If, according to their isolation theory, the FATHER is the ONLY TRUE GOD yet Christ is God, but NOT "TRUE" God, where does that leave Christ?

This forces the anti-trinitarians to admit that John 17:3 somehow has to allow Jesus to be "TRUE god" while somehow still denying he is the "true GOD". Usually they try to do this by saying He is not God, just the Son of God, who carries the name.

But that is just a round about way of denying that Christ is GOD!

By placing the exclusive meaning on the phrase that the Father is the "only true God" forces the meaning that Jesus is NEITHER "true" nor "God" in any sense. In the end the way they want to read the verse is that Jesus is neither
A. (TRUE GOD) or
B. (FALSE GOD) but
C. (a TRUE DEMI-GOD) or "lesser god" a Divine Being that carries the name of God, BUT IS NOT GOD.

The Bible says, (Matt. 4:10 )Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall you serve.
Is God contradicting Himself-- saying we are to worship ONLY HIM, if that means the Father ALONE is God, that He alone is the ONLY manifestation of the TRUE Godhead, and that even when we hear of “another god in heaven or on earth” (1 Cor. 8:5) we know it is not the true God?

That kind of interpretation of scripture is like having two doors, and being told you must enter ONLY the ONE, but you must also enter the other if you want life. (They spin in circles) They actually argue that while Jesus is not "true God" yet they will admit that Jesus is "true" and "god" thus turning him into a secondary "true demi-god". In fact they will even call Jesus God, but never True God or Almighty God… as if any of these terms mean anything different.

They may then simply say, Christ is NOT God, just the Son of God, acting the role of God, for God.
Is this how we are to view our wonderful Savior, whom the Bible declares is EMMANUEL, GOD WITH US? Was He just "acting"-- role playing? Was it not the REAL, TRUE God with us?

Now WHO is KING of Kings, and LORD of Lords?

Let the Bible tell us.....

Now let's go to text:

1 Timothy 6:15-16

Now 1 Timothy says HE ALONE possesses immortality!

If we apply the same bad logic that anti-trinitarians use to exclude Jesus Christ from the phrase "only true God" in John 17:3, we could also exclude the Father from being immortal based upon the language of 1 Tim 6:15-16.

Oh, I know-- the antitrinitarians will turn around and try to say: "Nice try, but not quite! 1 Timothy 6:15-16 refers to the FATHER, not to the Son for it is the FATHER that dwells in the unapproachable light.

However Hebrews 1:3 says Christ "is the BRIGHTNESS of GLORY". John 1:9 says Christ "is the true LIGHT". Christ has the same unapproachable light which the Father has, but He chose to veil that glory in order to communicate with humanity. Christ sits upon the throne of glory with the Father. Thus, this text is not speaking of ONLY the Father, nor is it speaking ONLY of the SON. It is speaking of GOD.
Christ's majesty is not reduced when the Father's majesty is magnified. Neither is the Father's glory reduced when the Son's glory is magnified.

This unapproachable light is uncreated, eternal, and not the light that was called into being on the first day.

Yet the text says THE ONLY.."KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS".

We just read IN SCRIPTURE--
that THE LAMB is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!!
If the restrictive anti-trinitarian rule applies which says ONLY can refer to ONLY ONE MEMBER of the Godhead, then again we must either deny Christ as truly King of kings and Lord of lords, or deny this of the Father. Usually the anti-trinitarians will deny Christ and again say He is just "carrying a name" but is not really God.

Now the truth of course, is that God the Father and God the Son are ONE GOD, (Jesus says "I and my Father are ONE" John 10:30) and therefore 1 Timothy 6:15-16 means GOD; the Father and Christ, possess immortality and all the other attributes of the Godhead.

This immortality is underived, infinite. All others can receive immortality FROM GOD, but God's life is underived and original. He ALONE can impart life eternal.

Scripture says of Christ:
"In Him was life; and the life was the light of men" John 1:4
"Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life." John 11:25

Yet following anti-trinitarian logic as they apply it to John 17:3 means they MUST either deny the plain text that Christ (the Lamb)is "KING of Kings, and Lord of Lords", and deny that Christ has life giving immortality, not just derived immortality, because 1 Timothy 6:15-16 identifies God as "He Who is the ONLY...KING of kings and LORD of Lords..Who alone has immortality", OR they must deny that the Father has immortality for the "ONLY KING of Kings and Lord of Lords, ALONE has immortality.".

Once again remember that the anti-trinitarians build their case on John 17:3 saying that Jesus prayer to His Father, that His disciples know "THEE, the ONLY TRUE GOD, and Jesus Christ", must somehow mean that God the Father is the ONLY TRUE GOD, and that therefore Christ is not the true God.

Now we ask WHO IS OUR SAVIOR?

Jude 1.25

Isaiah 45:21-22

John 4:42

Phil 3:20

The Bible clearly identifies the SAVIOR as Jesus Christ.
Yet Isaiah emphatically declares, "there is NO GOD and NO SAVIOR other than Jehovah."

Now how can the anti-trinitarian resolve this? If they say this refers to God the Father, then how could it refer to Christ? The words emphatically declare there IS NO OTHER SAVIOR-- there is none else.
Not even the usual "but Jesus inherited the Father's name" explain this.
These verses don't say; "My Son (who is not the true God) will be your Savior". NO! It says "Beside ME there is no Saviour." "There is NO GOD, beside me" Not even a lesser God, that inherited His godhood.

The truth of course is that God the Father and God the Son are ONE GOD--two persons, but one in eternity, in perfect unity of purpose, motives, plans and goals.

Thus God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, -- the complete Godhead, work for our Salvation.

For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ," (Jude 4, NASB).

Does this mean that the Father is not our Master and Lord? Of course not. Yet, Jesus is called our only Master and Lord.
