Jesus
God with Us

John 1.1-4,14

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us

Matthew 14:33
"They worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God."

1 Tim. 3:16
God was manifest in the flesh.

WHEN DID CHRIST
BECOME THE SON OF GOD?

When did Christ go through the birth process and become a "literal" son?
When did Christ lay aside His majesty and glory? When did He totally and completely put His own divinity and authority on "hold" and take the position of one totally in dependence upon God the Father?
The answer to that question is; -- at the incarnation. When Christ came to this earth as a human, the angel tells Mary:"that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God". Luke 1:35

Who IS Christ?

John 1:1 is probably the clearest statement, telling us that Christ IS GOD!
In three brief but profound phrases Christ's identity is stated.

1. In the beginning was the WORD:

In the same way Genesis 1:1 asserts that "In the beginning GOD", signifying that God was there in continous existence, so the WORD was there in continuous existance. God was there before there was a beginning. The WORD was there, before there was a beginning. The WORD "was" in all eternity, "was" in an unchanging, timeless existence.

2. And the WORD was with GOD:

The WORD is distinct from God the Father. He was God's intimate companion.

3. The WORD was GOD.

"The WORD was with God" sounds, according to our reasoning, as though the Word was something different from God. Now John turns around and says "THE WORD was GOD!"

Next John repeats all three positions:
THIS ONE the WORD who is God,
was in the beginning from eternity
with God. re-emphasizing the intimate relationship of ONENESS between Christ, the WORD, and the Father.

John continues to tell us THE WORD is the Creator God, for:
All things were made through Him; and without Him not a single thing was made. In HIM was life!

He is LIFE! Life in the fullest, highest sense, the eternal, creative life inherent in His very being. This LIFE is in contrast with all the living beings who came into existence by His creative power.

"The world was made by him, 'and without him was not anything made that was made.' If Christ made all things, he existed before all things. The words spoken in regard to this are so decisive that no one need be left in doubt. Christ was God essentially, and in the highest sense. He was with God from all eternity, God over all, blessed forevermore."
"The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, a distinct person, yet one with the Father.' RH.1906-04-05.(EGW)

This is the ONE who laid aside His Majesty and Power and became flesh, placing himself in the position of a dependant human being. Learning complete obedience to God the Father. (Heb. 5:8) Doing the Father's will. (John 5:30)

When Christ became man, He placed Himself totally in subjection and dependency upon the will of HIS FATHER. Like a Son to His Father, He, who was with God, and WAS GOD, submitted in total obedience, even to the death on the cross. It was not easy for the Prince of Life to carry out the plan which he had undertaken for the salvation of man. In His humanity it was always a temptation to use His own divinity. In heaven absolute power was His. The angels obeyed His every command. He was honoured and adored.
It was as difficult for him to keep to our level of humanity, in total dependency upon His Father, as it is for human beings to rise above the clamour of their carnal natures, and be partakers of the divine nature.

Yet during His entire human journey upon this earth, Christ followed THE WILL of His Father. He completely set aside His power in order to become equal with those, which were to be redeemed.

Hebrews 5:8,9 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Christ was put to the closest test, requiring the strength of all his faculties to resist the inclination when in danger, to use his power to deliver himself from peril, and triumph over the power of the prince of darkness. (See RH.1875-04)

Philippians 2:5-9
"Christ...being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, and every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

We should not confuse Christ's life as a human, with His eternal reality as God.

While on earth He consistantly took the role of a dependant human being. Our Saviour identifies Himself with our needs and weaknesses, in that He became a suppliant, seeking from His Father fresh supplies of strength. He is our example in all things. Christ came to earth FROM His place with the Father when He came to this earth to redeem mankind.

John 8.42
"Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me."

John 16.28
"I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father."

These texts are not speaking of "procreating Christ", For HE was with God and was God from all eternity. What these texts tell us is that CHRIST CAME FORTH from the very essence of the Godhood; from the midst of the heavenly throne (Rev. 7:17)of God, He came into the world. These verses DO NOT MEAN He came into initial existence by a birth processes---
He came forth from God into the world and was born of a virgin and was
called EmmanuEL, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US. (Matt. 1:23)

"When the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman , made under the law." Gal. 4:4

Matthew 1.23
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. "

Yes, Christ is truly GOD, and He is also the Son of God, born of a virgin in Bethlehem. He is God, the ONE Savior, made known to man as the SON, for He became our brother, that through Him we too can look to God as our Father. He became human, lowering Himself from the most exalted position in the universe to became one of us, for our salvation. He totally emptied Himself, and became totally dependant and obedient to His Heavenly Father. He, Who was equal to God, emptied Himself and came to be our brother-- leading us to look up and to see God as Father.

Before Creation, Christ was APPOINTED (not created or generated or birthed) as the ONE to unite created beings with God. The One to MANIFEST GOD to the created beings.

1 Peter 1.18-20
Forasmuch as ye know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things...But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Rev. 13.8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Before God (THE ONE GOD: THE FATHER, CHRIST, AND THE SPIRIT) created the world, it was appointed that "God" would supply HIMSELF a LAMB.

So yes, before the earth was created God, in the person of Christ, was brought forth as the surety for our salvation. The Lamb slain from the foundation of the earth, foreordained before the foundation of the world. Who was manifested upon earth as the Son of Man and the Son of God.

The very first lamb ever slain there at the gate of the Garden of Eden pointed forward to the LAMB OF GOD, WHO was foreordained to die for our salvation.

Galatians 4:4
"When the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman , made under the law."

John 1.1-4,14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,

Phil. 2.5-10
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,"

ANGEL'S COULD NOT save us BECAUSE their "Life" came from God, but Christ can save us, because HE HIMSELF IS self-existing GOD.

RH.1914-08-06.001 From Jesus is our life derived. In him is life that is original,--unborrowed, underived life. In him is the fountain of life. In us there is a streamlet from the fountain of life. YI.1900-06-21.002 Not one of the angels could have become surety for the human race: their life is God's; they could not surrender it. The angels all wear the yoke of obedience. They are the appointed messengers of Him who is the commander of all heaven. But Christ is equal with God, infinite and omnipotent. He could pay the ransom for man's freedom. He is the eternal, self-existing Son, on whom no yoke had come; and when God asked, "Whom shall I send?" he could reply, "Here am I; send me."

It was because CHRIST’S LIFE WAS UNBORROWED, UNDERIVED, SELF-EXISTING, ETERNAL, that He, not an angel could become surety for man’s salvation.

HEBREWS 7:2-3 King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Do we, as some claim, deny that Christ is the Son of God?
No, we do not DENY that Christ is the Son of God.

1 John 5.10-11 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
The question we must address is:
What IS IT THAT WE MUST acknowledge? and when did Christ become God's Son?

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
To deny that Christ is FULLY AND TRULY GOD is what constitutes the condemnation in that text. When we, like Thomas, cast ourselves at His wounded feet, and cry out “MY LORD AND MY GOD”. That is where we find salvation. IS CHRIST truly God? Or do we listen to those who say there is Only One True God and it isn’t Christ????? No, the condemnation is on those who refuse to believe IN THE NAME OF JESUS-- EMMANUEL which being interpreted is GOD WITH US!

Yes, we believe that Christ became the literal "Son of God" at the incarnation. Christ did not "play act" his incarnation.

The anti-trinitarians however, say Christ only "carries the name" of God, but is not the God at all. Thus it is they that have Christ "play acting" that He is God.

Those texts used to try and deny Christ’s Godhood, all show THAT CHRIST CAME FROM THE VERY ESSENSE OF GODHOOD--
He became the son of MAN, but He is not only the "son of man" He is also the "Son of God."

That was the big issue-- would people recognize HIS GODHOOD. No, He is not the same person as God the Father-- BUT HE IS OF THE SAME SUBSTANCE, ONE WITH HIM-- God revealed-- manifested.

The Jews were saying

John 6.42
Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
That is how they perceived Christ-- They denied that Christ came from the very “bosom” of God, (0NE WITH THE FATHER) to reveal God. This denial comes from those who refuse to see the full Godhood in Christ the Son. Do you believe that Christ is GOD who came forth from the very essence of the Godhood, from the Father, in heaven when He came to this earth to redeem mankind. Do you believe it was GOD WITH US, when Christ was born in Bethlehem. Was it the TRUE GOD WITH US, or was it a lesser Being?

Matthew 1.23 He shall be called EMMANUEL, which means, God with us."

IT WAS (and is) THE TRUE GOD WITH US!!

Yes, Christ is truly God, He came from God, and He is God. (John 1:1)
He totally emptied Himself, and became totally dependant and obedient to His Heavenly Father. (Phil. 2:5-8)
He came to be our brother-- leading us in example to look up and to see God as Father.
EmmanuEL, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.

Notice again when the NAME “SON OF GOD” is given:

Luke 1.32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

Luke 1.35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Gal. 4.4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Now people will point to one or two verses in the OT where Christ is called the “SON”. But remember He is also the “LAMB SLAIN from the foundation of the earth”. He was foreordained before creation to be "the Son" and the "Lamb". In the same way HE is the “Lamb” from the foundations of the earth, so He is "the SON" from the foundations of the earth. The plan of redemption was conceived, or brought forth, before the earth was created. We cannot really explain how the incarnation took place. It is a mystery for our finite minds. How God became man.

Yet the fact that Christ is TRULY GOD is the very basis of our SALVATION.

Pagan and Spiritualistic Concepts

The condemnation is not against those who refuse to believe in the fertility cult aspects of pagan gods who “reproduce” to pro-create new gods? The pagan fertility gods, is not what the foundation of our faith is based upon? That is the pagan concept-- the fertility aspects….

What are the counterfeit pagan concepts of gods? They are NOT trinitarian, they are tritheist, or polytheist. They are gods who have love affairs and give birth to more "god" children which have quite independant goals and personalities of each other.
For example the god, Zeus, was fathered by the agriculture god "Cornos" and the goddess, Rhea, was his mother. Cronus overthrew his father Uranus (Ouranos ) the ex-almighty god. Who later also became an ex-almighty god when Zeus defeated him with lightening bolts. Zeus, becomes the father of the god, Appollo, by forcing himself on the goddess Leto....... And so the mythical gods and goddesses produce more gods and goddesses.

This is the pagan false spiritualistic beliefs which are being taught about the Godhead, maintaining that Jesus was literally birthed or born out of the person of the Father before the foundations of the earth were laid, and that is how Jesus became the only begotten Son of God. They say the Father is the only God, or the only true God in the Godhead, and that Christ is NOT true God. They say that there was a time in which the Father existed alone before giving birth to Christ; that the Holy Spirit is not a separate Being or Person, but is merely the "power" or "breath" or "life" of the Father or the Son. They say that only God the Father is the true God, and Christ is not the true God, and the Holy Ghost is not an individual, not the 3rd person of the Godhead.
Spiritualism teaches--"Son of God, First-Born...the Second Logos or Higher Self,--the first emanation from the Father, the Absolute, or the First Logos." Dictionary of All Scriptures and Myths, by G.A. Gaskell, p 702 (this dictionary uses the philosophic sacredly held writings of all religions such as Zoroaster, Philo, Swedenborg, Buddah, Hermes, the Qabbalah, etc., in order to derive the definitions--hence the definitions given are mystical and spiritualistic). Spiritualism teaches--"The eternal Birth or generation of the Son or Divine Word.... "From our proper Source, that is to say, from the Father and all that which lives in Him, there shines,' says Ruysbroeck, 'an eternal Ray, the which is the Birth of the Son....We are celebrating the feast of the Eternal Birth which God the Father has borne..." Mysticism, p 146, by E. Underhill, quoted in Dictionary, p 702.
So spiritualism also teaches that the Son of God was literally birthed or born out of the Father from eternity--before anything else was created. These are occultic beliefs, are voicing doctrines of devils, and are guilty of spreading spiritualistic lies as being the truth--putting darkness for light. This spiritualistic doctrine--that the Christ was literally birthed or born out of the Father, gave rise to the spiritualistic belief that God must have female capabilities in order to give birth: the occult teaches that God is both father and mother in one being, or the "father-mother God." This belief is the foundation of the spiritualistic doctrine of dualism, yin-yang, positive-negative, that both good and evil must exist in order for the universe to survive and for man to achieve God-hood. Since the false belief that Jesus became the literal Son of God by literally being born or brought forth out of the Father before the earth was created, is clearly and only a teaching of spiritualism and thus a doctrine of devils: some may ask, "When then does the Bible say that Jesus literally became the only begotten Son of God?" These following texts may help in this issue.
"I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten thee." Psalms 2:7. "For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?" Hebrews 1:5.
In the words "I will be to him a Father, and He shall be to me a Son" and again "I will declare the decree," shows a future time in which a Father and Son relationship was literally to exist. These texts also reveal that God the Father and Christ, were already in existence before this parental decree was to be made of Christ becoming Jesus the literal Son of God, and God the Father becoming His literal Father. But when did this decree come to pass?

"And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end....

"The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God." Luke 1:30-33, 35.

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:10-11.

"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given...and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of peace." Isaiah 9:6.

With these above texts in mind, it seems clear that Jesus was not literally born out of the Person of the Father as spiritualists teach, but that he literally became the only born or begotten Son of God after He took humanity upon Himself, continuing on as such throughout eternity. Through the plan of redemption, God literally became Christ's Father when Christ became Jesus in humanity, and OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST literally became the only born or begotten Son of God when he became Jesus Christ in humanity. There is definitely no role-playing involved here, because God literally became the Father of Jesus, and Jesus literally became the only born of the Father at his birth into humanity.
