1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

MARK ANNOUNCES THE GOSPEL:

The gospel presents far more than what Jesus taught, the gospel is centered in Christ, the Son of God.

1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

PREPARATION:

The preparation for receiving Christ and the gospel is an awakening of mankind to their need. They have broken God's law, they are sinners in need of repentance, and forgiveness. They are called upon to repent and confess their sins, in preparation for remission of those sins, which comes only through the shed blood of Christ.

" Matt. 26:28 "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Without the law there is not the knowledge of sin, the law ever stands to define sin.
