And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Earth's First Grand Mountain
This mountain was very REAL, literal and could be seen by all who lived prior to the great flood recorded in Genesis.
Eden was not just the “garden” but the whole “mountain” of God, as we read in Genesis 2:8, that God planted a garden eastward in Eden. That shows us that the garden was IN EDEN, on the east side.
How can we know that Eden was a mountain? Because out of Eden flowed a great river, and that river first watered the garden and then parted into four great rivers which watered the whole earth. (Gen. 2:10)
Rivers flow down from mountains.
It was upon this mountain, on the east side, within the garden specially prepared for them, that Adam and Eve lived prior to sin. Here, every evening, in the cool of the day, God Himself would come and communicate with Adam and Eve. (Gen. 3:8)
Adam was "the son of God" (Luke 3:38) to him was given the dominion of the earth. (Gen. 1:26,28) This glorious mountain was in full view of the ancients living prior to the flood.
Yet, because of their sin, they were not allowed inside. Rather than accepting God's promise of a Savior, the SON OF GOD, to die for their sins and redeem their lost inheritance; instead of coming in humility to confess their sins and worship at the entrance of that great mountain which they KNEW was God's holy mountain, -- they decided to build their own mountians to a creature god whom they had chose to serve; a being who wanted to be god, and who had also been dismissed from the glorious mountain of Eden. (That serpent, the dragon)
Who wants to be King of the Mountain!
Instead of seeking to make God supreme in the affections and allegiance of His creatures, it was Lucifer's plan and all absorbing agenda to win their service and homage to himself. He aspired to be equal with God. He is the king of the mysteries of Babylon. Coveting the honor of God's Son Jesus Christ, this prince of angels aspired to power which it was the prerogative of Christ alone to wield. He would be God and exalt created beings to the position of his sons, acknowledged as semi divine rulers of his mountain.
Thus we see the ancients setting about to build their own “mountains”. After Cain killed his brother he went into another part of the country and built a city, naming it after his son. Apparently he set up a new religious system in defiance of the God in heaven. Our records of preflood civilization are meager. But we do know they built a city and were in defiance against God of such magnitude, and filled with such violence, evil and tyranny that God had to destroy them.
Post Flood Evidence of Mountain Kingdoms
However, we see something astonishing happening very soon after the flood!
We see massive mountains raised at the center of civilizations, with their own priest/king domination. The evidence that very soon after the flood these mammoth “mountains” were erected in various parts of the world is an indication that the people of earth were attempting to reconstruct the pre-flood worship system.
The man who apparently set this rebellion in motion was, Nimrod. Nimrod was the son of Cush, who was the son of Ham, who was the son of Noah. The first kingdom established after the flood was the Sumerian Kish, (many believe this was named after Cush, who once again started the city/state government. His son, whom the Bible calls, Nimrod meaning the "rebel", is thought by many to be the legendary Gilgamesh. According to Josephus,
According to David Livingston in "Ancient Days", the Gilgamesh Epic has Gilgamesh set out with a half-monster friend, Enkidu, to kill the Being responsible for sending the flood. They journey to the Cedar Mountain to find and destroy this Being, whose name is "Huwawa". The name is very close to the name of YHVH! In the epic Gilgamesh claims the expedition was successful, he vanquished and kills Huwawa. Thus he claims the God who sent the flood is dead! Nimrod founded a powerful kingdom; a tyrannical kingdom with its own gods and mountains.
The literal reading is, "let's build us a tower whose top with the heavens". This tower had astrological purposes, as well as being the center that was to unite the whole world under one government. The use the ancients made of the earth's magnetic currents, which was dependant upon astronomical observation to determine the waxing and waning of the these currents, and how they utilized this force which flowed over the ley lines they constructed all over the earth, still remains a mystery, but these men worked hard to establish a one world government! The Genesis record shows that these descendants of Noah were well aware that they were the fathers of future nations. Ancient maps show they went out and mapped the world. There was a major "land grab" as they staked out their territories reserving it for their children and children's children (see Gen. 10). Yet they did not want to cut off from each other-- thus the attempt of these ancients to establish a one world government "lest they be scatter over the face of the earth".
Somehow this tower, this huge man made mountain which the Bible calls the tower of Babel, was the key structure to hold the lines of control over the earth. But God would not allow them to reconstruct the pre-flood culture, He destroyed their ability to communicate, and the outlying areas found themselves "scattered," separated, "over the face of all the earth", for they ceased building the tower.
The mound which is still standing, believed to be the tower of Babel, rises about two hundred feet out of the plain and covers some ten acres. In his book "Through the Land of Babylon" Leonard Pearson gives us some interesting information concerning this tower believed to be the tower of Babel. Therefore Nebuchandnezzar covered up the old tower by building around it an immense wall and then erecting his tower above that... However, King Nebuchandnezzar had a problem -- he couldn't destroy the old tower of Babel to build his own! The bricks were NOT just sun dried clay! Near the summit of the mound, upon which Nebuchnezzar built the tower, one finds a curious rock-like substance--THE ORIGINAL TOWER. Strike it with a tool and it rings like metal. Examine it and a brick-like substance may be seen but each brick is solidly welded into its mate, and all is so hard as to defeat any power less than dynamite to break it up. Even mighty men may be defeated at times and thus was Nebuchandnnezzar! How can this "core" be accounted for? It is vitrified brick. Under intense heat the bricks were literally fused and then cooled into this rock-like slag. Was this achieved by the original builders who said "let us make brick and burn them to a burning"?
It seems evident that God halted this undertaking of post flood people to reconstruct the pre-flood priest/king, one world government, by destroying the communication system.

Babylon seeks to reconstruct Eden
However, it was in Babylon that the largest and most famous ziggurat was located and from there we can learn a little how this (more restricted) world kingdom attempted to duplicate the rebellion.
Nebuchadnezzar built the famous hanging gardens in Babylon (God planted the garden within Eden)
Babylon had a mighty river flowing through the center and out into surrounding country -- (Eden, had a great river flowing out it, dividing into four and watering the earth)
Also, a key ingredient is the realization that KINGS were considered “divine” -- they were considered the “son of god”. In yearly rituals the Babylonian king took the hand of the god “marduk’ among other ceremonies. signifying that he was the “son of marduk”.
David Livingston, in "Ancient Days--Sons of God" writes:
"Clever men (priest-nobles) manipulated the populace's religious instincts to cause them to follow and obey the local god's "sons". He owned the people and land, in theory at least. And he acted either as god (in Egypt), or as his representative (in Mesopotamia and other cultures). when all the literature and monuments were used to glorify and exalt this man as the "son", or representative, of god, religion became the opiate (binder and blinder) of the people! Manipulation of religion for political purposes began in Sumer, was picked up in Old Babylon, revised with the same themes in Assyria and New Babylon, was enjoyed by Persian monarchs, captivated Alexander and his successors, and was copied by Rome."
Thus they were taking the place OF CHRIST--
Is There Still a Counterfeit Mountain System Today?
After Rome, we see Papal Rome continuing the tradition of the "mountain kings". Yet, there's a difference, this claims to be "representative" of the TRUE GOD! THIS WHOLE THING is the great counterfeit which is seeking to build the counterfeit mountain of god--
Any building of a religious mountain with priest/kingly control in the hands of a human being is a counterfeit.
Revelation 13 speaks of creating "an image" to the beast. (That tyrannical priest/king system) Once again, like in the days of Nebuchnezzar of old, the priest/kingly power will seek to establish their world wide, mountain kingdom, under the illusion that it will bring world peace, in defiance to God's revelation that these tyrannical kingdoms will end.
JERUSALEM CALLED MOUNT ZION
While the nations of earth were building their mountains to their heathen gods, there was also a mountain which was to show forth the glory of the true God!
Abraham climbed that mountain. On Mount Moriah, Abraham said to Isaac, "My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering." Gen. 22:7, 8. Later, upon that very mountain, Solomon built the magnificent temple. Jerusalem became the city known as the Mt. Zion. Christ wept over Jerusalem, for that city, His mountain, refused to accept Him who was their GOD -- WHO HAD COME to them. A thousand years earlier, the psalmist had magnified God's favor to Israel The priests and rulers wanted to be the ones to control the people! To be the "kings" of the mountain! So they crucified the Son of God! No longer could Jerusalem be HIS MOUNTAIN. The glorious promises that truth would flow from Jerusalem and "many nations would come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths:" Micah 4.2 would never happen.
Does God still have "a mountain?" Many are still looking to old Jerusalem as that mountain but scripture points us to look somewhere else: THE TRUE MOUNTAIN RESTORED!
The final destruction of the counterfeit will be done BY THE TRUE SON OF GOD. The TRUE STONE! See Daniel 2
He will return, not this time as a "the lamb of God" but as the King of kings to give the kingdom to His faithful.
Then the redeemed are taken TO the TRUE mountain of God--
To the mountain of Eden which was taken to heaven!
GC.646.001 As the ransomed ones are welcomed to the City of God, there rings out upon the air an exultant cry of adoration. The two Adams are about to meet. The Son of God is standing with outstretched arms to receive the father of our race--the being whom He created, who sinned against his Maker, and for whose sin the marks of the crucifixion are borne upon the Saviour's form.
Transported with joy, he beholds the trees that were once his delight--the very trees whose fruit he himself had gathered in the days of his innocence and joy. He sees the vines that his own hands have trained, the very flowers that he once loved to care for. His mind grasps the reality of the scene; he comprehends that this is indeed Eden restored, more lovely now than when he was banished from it. The Saviour leads him to the tree of life and plucks the glorious fruit and bids him eat. He looks about him and beholds a multitude of his family redeemed, standing in the Paradise of God. Then he casts his glittering crown at the feet of Jesus and, falling upon His breast, embraces the Redeemer.
Yes, it is the NEW JERUSALEM the city of God--

Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
It was named Eden!
After the fall it was surrounded by some kind of wall or barrier, and at it's entrance at the east of the garden, stood angels with flaming swords.(Gen. 3:24)
But Adam lost this "dominion" when he sinned, and was driven from Eden.
The one who had proclaimed "I will ascend unto heaven, I will exalt my throne above the throne stars of God; I will sit on the mountain of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north, I will be like the Most High" (Isaiah 14:12-14)
The Bible reads: "Cush begat Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one in the earth...and the beginning of his kingdom was BABEL, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.. and they said, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." (Gen. 10: 8-9; 11:2-4)
When Sir Henrey Rawlinson excavated at Birs Nimrud, he found inscriptions left by Nebuchadnezzar which are indeed helpful and explanatory. "The house of the earth's base, the most ancient monument of Babylon I built and finished. I exalted its head with bricks covered with copper...the house of the seven lights (the seven planets); a former king forty-two ages ago built, but did not complete its head. Since a remote time people had abandoned it, without orders expressing the words, the earthquake and the thunder had split and dispersed its sun-dried clay."
The answer is "no", for there is no heat on earth that can be generated which could do it today. (Written before atomic age) Could lightning have done it? Again the answer is "no".
Notice that the structure is solid through and from the top to the bottom and the whole mas was vitrified.
What can the answer be? Shall we find the answer from the greatest brick expert in the world and in so doing find this man is definitely an atheist, and will he be able to explain the matter? Yes, he may, and his verdict is "an act of God".
That some type of original unity existed over the whole earth with similar "mountain" systems is seen by the Pyramid/ziggurat structures found all over the world dating back to the ancient times!
One finds these ziggurats on every continent of the earth. All the ziggurats were built with specific alignments to the heavens, situated with mathematical calculations based on the geometry of the land and grid points of energy on planet Earth. 
The ziggurats were "mountains" of the gods, the word means “pinnacle, mountain top". Their function was to connect humanity to the gods and the powers of their gods.
Note that the famous ziggurats had a flat top where man (often the king) was to “meet god”. (remember-- prior to sin God came down to meet with Adam in Eden)
But yet the papacy follows in the pattern of the mountain kings. The divine gift to rule is taught through the doctrine which exalts Peter as the foundation stone of the church, and that the POPE is thus the “ROCK” the "continuing authority of Peter and that he has the keys to bind and loose the citizens of heaven!"--
The claim to "godlikeness" of pope and his priests can be found in their own literature. The pope is considered "infallible" in his official declarations. He and his priests claim the power over the forgiveness of sins, and the control over who enters heaven and who does not. The church considers itself above God's law with authority to change it. That type of power is "tyrannical power" which, if people believe, makes them virtual slaves to this power. This was amply demonstrated during the dark ages.
Thus the pope took the role of Christ as the final authority in all spiritual matters.
"The Lord had "chosen Zion," He had "desired it for His habitation." Psalm 132:13.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple:"
But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
where there is no corruption or evil, or sinful bondage.

The beautiful garden of Eden, from which our first parents had been driven, remained until God determined to destroy the earth by a flood. The Lord had planted that garden, and especially blessed it; and in his wonderful providence he withdrew it from the earth, and will return it again, more gloriously adorned than before it was removed. God purposed to preserve a specimen of his perfect work of creation free from the curse which sin had brought upon the earth.
Before the ransomed throng is the Holy City. Jesus opens wide the pearly gates, and the nations that have kept the truth enter in. There they behold the Paradise of God, the home of Adam in his innocency. Then that voice, richer than any music that ever fell on mortal ear, is heard, saying: "Your conflict is ended." "Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."
Finally Eden will return LITERALLY to this earth -- the city whose height equals it‘s width. People have studied the dimensions of that city and indeed IT IS A MOUNTAIN! And most think its in the general shape of a huge pyramid (but much more glorious and elaborate and radiant!)
Within it is that same great river of life flowing forth to water the whole earth. (Rev. 22:1)
Within it is that same tree of life bearing fruit (Rev. 22:2)
